Lake Hartwell

Lake Hartwell is a man-made reservoir located on the border of Georgia and South Carolina. The Georgia side of the lake is primarily located in Hart County, Georgia. Lake Hartwell was created by the construction of Hartwell Dam in the 1950s, which was built by the U.S. Army Corps of Engineers for flood control and hydroelectric power. The lake covers approximately 56,000 acres and has 962 miles of shoreline, making it one of the largest lakes in the Southeast. The lake is a popular destination for fishing, boating, swimming, and other water activities. There are many marinas, boat ramps, and campgrounds located around the lake, as well as several state parks. The area surrounding the lake is also known for its scenic beauty, with rolling hills, forests, and abundant wildlife.
